UML unveils 20 yr vision for New Nepal

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Feb 22 - CPN-UML on Friday unveiled a 20-year Vision Nepal plan for a new Nepal.

The 20-year plan for a new Nepal aims at eliminating unemployment and poverty, increasing the per capital income to US $ 1000, providing electricity to every citizen.

The vision also includes transforming the economic and social sectors to take Nepal to the mid development phase of a new industrial nation, developing Nepal as the top Asian tourist spot, free education till secondary school for all female students, providing relief and shelter to the backward and destitute.

It also unveiled plans to end illiteracy in five years, providing clean drinking water to all people, constructing a major highway connecting east and west across the hilly region and the establishment of an electric railway network in the Terai in ten years.

The Vision Nepal also states to increase the average life expectancy to 70 and economic growth rate to 8 percent.

The party also stated plans to provide social protection to disabled and older people and setting up an international airport outside Kathmandu valley.

UM General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal informed that the party formulated Vision Nepal since a clear policy was needed to make a new Nepal.

The UML leaders have said that they were ready to openly present themselves to garner public support for the development of the country and in regard to the plans.

Standing committee member Bharat Mohan Adhikari heads the committee comprising over 300 experts from various fields to formulate Vision Nepal, the party informed.

Personally, I feel that it does sound good to read but 'eliminating'  unemployment its a bit too much with the way these leaders run the government. East West highway across hilly region and electric railway network is also to garner votes as recently, Nepal Electricity Authority had stated that by the end of 2012 if completed all the electricity projects would be just enough to fulfill the electricity demand. Also, we know one or two of our rivers might be sold to India if they are elected as there are examples of Mahakali and Tanakpur. I doubt economic growth rate will reach 8 percent with the strikes that happens almost every day in different part of the country which will also sink the idea of making Nepal a top tourist spot in Asia.

Having said all these things I hope n so much wish that these plans would come true n i dont care which party is running the government be it CPN UML or Congress or Maoist or any other parties.

I am impressed with the vision. I hope this time they really mean it. And get rid of GIRIJA. Girija is one the bad thing happened to our country.

Girija Chor should take responsibilities of all the chaos in the country.

There is not a lack of good ideas, but Singha Darbar is the place where these ideas die.

We need to change the mentality of people .leaders . then only we can do something ..

I borrowed above phrase from One of the rising leader in US. but this is truth .. a bitter truth

These leaders have been tested for many times. I would doubt they would bring any concret solution to the country. I smell election fever in its party vision outlined above and only brought this just to win election....

There will be no Nepal to develop if elections are held (it will be sold). If the elections are not then then no one can stop the civil war.

Lets see.

Thanks Satelite. Well, Like Aaalu Jasto said once they get inside the Singha Durbar the plan remains in the paper and new plan of their personal home, business n bank balance starts getting priority. The corrupted remains unpunished and leaders who try to do some good never reach to the top of the power. For the change leaders need to be made accountable, examples needs to be set on punishing corrupted people. Opposition parties should also support the government if its in the welfare of people, not like in the past where the only thing opposition parties did was criticising the government.  The civil society (not the present one) needs to be stronger and should appropriately put its opinion each time a major policy change is done affecting the people and country. There are too many things to do and the current batch of leaders do not seem to learn from the past mistakes that easily.
Still I am optimistic and hope that the country does not head into another civil war.

there is an exactly the same post and I had written

thats correct...its that hope.......... that dream,.......... that wish,................. that desperation .........that hunger which drives the innocent Nepalese people within the grasp of these bloodsucking political leaders.......Everytime  when an election is around the corner....these leaders come out of their high class mingling to the comon people and spread lies.....and after winning.......they start the leg pulling and attacking the surples budget money and bribes.....and are somewhere else.....they vanish from the current problems the people and the country is facing.........leaving room for curroption ,extortion,,,lawlessness....and ....suffering.....and they themselves   are found living in luxury..........huge banquets, dinnerparties,..............and self beautification and self richment,,,,,,,,..when the poeple who voted are back to the reality..EVERY SINGLE TIME................. and still people fall for it.....just say no to vote and no to all these leaders.............they are a few handfull.........collectively ........there are 22 million of us.....

and I still see some people here believing what these Netas have been proposing...LOL...DO they need an election to develope Nepal.....?????.....everyone has a plan for a new Nepal...........if they implemented this plan when in power.......did we really need an election?????? would we be in this state??? LIES LIES LIES..............because to develope Nepal was these Neats first and foremost duty when they took oner Nepal decades ago from the King.

Summary: Empty rhetoric. What we need in Nepal is strong leadership.
Also, it'd be  a much better plan if their (UML) vision included self-eradication.
Communism/Socialism won't work in Nepal. The last 18-19 years have proven that as a matter of fact.
