Sajha friends, do Nepali passport holders need to get transit visa in prior if Qatar Airways is giving a free hotel?  I called Qatar office and got an email saying that my hotel is conformed but it also says this:

* Confirmation of your hotel at Doha does not guarantee an entry into the State of Qatar. This is entirely at the discretion of the Doha Immigration Authority.

Can anyone with recent experience share about this?

Thanks.

I think you will have to call Qatar Airways customer service, give them your passport details and they will be able to issue you a transit visa upon your arrival in Doha. Call them at least 3 days in advance of your arrival date.

My transit was in Bahrain, not Qatar. I got a 24 hour transit visa right at the Bahrain Airport, met a wonderful German Lady heading to Nepal in the same flight as mine and we made good friends. A van picked us up, took us to a hotel in the City. We each got a nice decent room, a pretty good dinner. Alarm rang in the morning, took a nice shower and headed downstairs to the banquet room for a pretty good breakfast. Browsed the internet, checked emails and told everyone in Nepal, I was going to be there on time. A van picked us up, took us to the Airport and after a nice cup of coffee with the German Lady, since we arrived a little early, I was on my way to Nepal, fresh and ready for home sweet home.

Hope my experience helps you :)

My experience dates back to 2009, so things may be different now.  Back then, there was a desk for transit hotels right after entering the terminal where you would pick up the hotel voucher (issued by a Nepali gentleman in my case).  You would then proceed to the immigration desk (mostly staffed by burka-clad ladies sporting expensive-looking watches and mobile phones).  Entry was granted without any question asked.  Clear customs (be sure not to carry any alcohol or pork product), walk outside the terminal to wait for your hotel's van.  Experience the desert heat for a few minutes before you enter the vehicle with AC in full blast.  You need to surrender your passport at the reception desk which will be returned at check-out.  Dinner and breakfast were on the house.  There is a good chance that your chaffeur and hotel staff are fellow Nepalis (chaffeur from Palpa and hotel staff from Chitwan in my case).  All in all, it was a pleasant and hassle-free experience.

You may also want to check with the Qatari consulate/embassy and/or visit their immigration website.  The airport's website may also provide some helpful information.

Enjoy your trip!

Jonny, I went to Nepal via Qatar in April and I did not have to get any transit visa to check into my hotel in Doha. If the visa regulations have not changed since then, I am positive that you won't need transit visa. You will be required to go through the immigration check upon arrival but it's just a matter of minutes. Hope that helps and have a safe trip back home!!

Slightly off topic, but following up on Krishna's post above, I have to say my experience with Gulf Air and Bahrain stopover were not that good.

It took 2 hours for Gulf rep to come to his desk so that he can call the hotel shuttle for us.

The hotel, Golden Tulip, looked ok from outside and the lobby/restaurants looked nice.  However, Gulf Air transit passengers - mostly Nepalis - were not allowed to eat there.  We were directed to a room in the back where they had laid out a buffet of 4 or 5 stale items, mostly indian food.  That really looked quite discriminatory, granted it was a free.

The room itself was small and not that remarkable.  It was more akin to what you would find in a Super 8 or Motel 6.

What really pissed me off was that on the way to Nepal from Bahrain, their business class cabin was only half full.  So they selected only the European looking people and upgraded them.

I am not going to fly Gulf Air again.

Thank you guys for all your reply, it really helped.  I also found this info: If the hotel is provided by the airlines then that airlines will take care of the transit visa.  But if say I want to pay for the hotel myself and my passport is Nepali then I have to get visa in advance from the embassy.

To add to nepali_american, I too had similar experience at Bahrain.  My flight from Bahrain to KTM was cancelled and they gave us hotel but their shuttle to hotel didn't come for 4 hours.  Their explanation was that their driver went home.  But the hotel we got was nice, kinda like holiday inn express.
