As far as I remember there was never a strong demand for removing hindu rastra tag from nepal. Why did Girija do it? I am afraid people will hold muslims and christians in nepal responsible for this change while truth is that most nepali muslims dont take beef even when outside nepal... we also protested when someone said that sow-slaughter should be allowed in nepal. I believe that the new declaration will make minorities scapegoat. Nepal will also become like india where religions can not exist in peace. Some people from my place are happy about this but I feel terrible... am I wrong?

>>>Does that mean the restaurents there will now start butchering cows and start selling cheeseburgers? I wish that does not happen. No one in my family has beef. It is not necessary to have beef according to islam(though I no longer follow islam). Earlier we had given up beef and got peaceful co-existance. Now I guess people will have beef etc which will offend fellow hindus... gradually fu**ing parties like RSS will come into existance and do religious politics their bread earning mechanism. I have only one question... who had demanded the change of name? Nepal was already secular in nature. I would rather be a citizen of a 'religious voilence freee hindu rastra' than 'religoious voilence affected secular country'. I am sure dhotis(BJP etc) will make this issue and king will have a chance to come back.... many people can be polarized against minorities because of this issue. Can some one tell me why Girija needed to declare it now? could it not have been finalized through constituent assembly?

I, for one, am happy about this. Idea of secular nation appeals to me more than theocratic or religiously driven country. On one hand you have nations like USA, Canada, India, most of Europe and then on the other hand you have Iran, Pakistan, Indonesia, some of sub-saharan Africa. Know how haphazardly the past census were taken, I do not buy the notion that Nepal is 90% or even 80% hindus. But that is besides the point. Obviously, there was a reason why the founding fathers of the US made sure that church and state are clearly separated. So yes, I applaud the move to make Nepal a secular nation.

This is probably because you are either a non-Hindu or an anti-Hindu? If you are non-Hindu then probably for you it should not have been the matter of applause. For a non-Hindu, it should have probably been the matter of indifference. If you are anti-Hindu then i see there is logic to applaud this action. For one who believes in Hinduism will think this is blow to the majority of the Nepali population in the name of Secular and inclusive democracy. More inportantly, as Y. Alam had very aptly mentioned earlier, it will give Hindu fundamentalist (generally, they include supporters of King since they have money to make “Hindu Senaâ€) with the support from their counterpart in India to weaken the secular party politics. Now you will find parities in the name of religion, I think we are inviting unnecessary religious tension and violence with this unwarranted inclusion in the proclamation.

Yusf thanks for the blog. I like your honesty. Wish we had more people like you here in US. There was nothing wrong with being a Hindu state. It is definitely a hqnd of Prachanda & Indian govt & their commies. Hindus by nature are secular. We had no problems with Muslims in Nepal. I hope this remains same in the new equation. The word 'secualr' is itself a conspiracy! This is the plan of anti-Nepal forces coupled with maoists terrorists who are scared of Hindus. Because being Hindu we never can accept Commies. This is the most sinister plan to make Nepal a communist counrty or a part of India. Now the questiions that arise: Who will check the PM & Politicians? Will the victims of maoists-terrorists get justice? Will someone try Prachanda for killing 14000+ innocent men/women/children? So will we have free for all missionaries? now will we have soon new johns, steves, julies, susans? There are many questions more, may some of the readers provide them. For me it is the saddest day! FOR ONLY ONE PRIMARY REASON THAT NEPAL IS NO MORE A HINDU STATE!!!!!!!!

If bane in "Gaja Kheti" in Nepal some 20-25 years back is one of the principal causes of uprising of Maoism in Rapti and eventually thought the Nation, I would not be surprised to see Hindu Militants marching in the Nepal in less than a decade from now due to inclusion of this unwarranted provision in proclamation.

guys, Do not sit at ease thinking that something new better will happen in Nepal after today's House proclamation--i.e removal of kings power and management of army by parliament and also hindu tags: from now onwards nepal will no longer be called Hindu Country but rather secular like India. Nepal's democracy is still in its fledgling state as compared to India where religious unrest is very high. Inspite of India having old democracy, it is going through many obstacles--political turmoil, corruption, nepotism, etc, etc. So how can we be sure that from now onwards Nepal will go ahead peacefully since our inglorious leaders are not the guys to be trusted fully, so are dreadful maoists. There's too much religious tolerance here--Buddhists along with Hindus celebrate Buddha Jayanti and take part in other's religious sentiments, festivals. Muslims are never attacked by some partisan nor their religious freedom being clamped down. Christians are doing their church duty without any problem--but inspite of all this nepal is relieved from Hindu tag. Is that necesary as nepal has been more than secular. Thanks to Maoists autocratic pressure to parties. Some very very very bad, terrible, unprecedented disaster may take place in Nepal. Be ALERT! I am feeling very very suffocated saying this.. but what I see thro my political analysis is very undesirable to you guys. Really Really Really you all educated youth should consider what I say. I am not pessimist, but this is the present day reality. Matyangro
