MUMBAI: Mumbai relived a nightmare when seven explosions shook the city within minutes on Tuesday evening. Reports said more than 100 people had died and many were injured.

The target was Mumbai's life-line -- its local train services -- timed to catch the evening rush.

The first blast occurred in a first-class compartment of a local train near Khar station at 6.24 p.m and six more had occurred within the next 11 minutes all on trains or at or near railway stations.

The other blasts occurred at Mira Road, Matunga, Santa Cruz, Jogeshwari, Borivili and Bhayendar railway stations.

All explosions were reported to have taken place in first class compartments of trains at a time when a large chunk of the commercial capital is returning home from office.

Police said more than 100 people had died. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh reassured the citizens of Mumbai that things were under control. He saked the people to keep calm and not panic in reaction to rumours.

Mumbai was stunned before the panic set in. There was chaos and crush as people rushed to safety. Many were seen lying on the rail tracks.

Eyewitnesses said rain was hampering rescue work as the injured were carried to hospital. The injured at Santa Cruz station were taken to the nearby V N Desai hospital and another 20 were admitted to the KEM Hospital in Parel.

As people tried to reach their own, local phone lines were jammed and communication within the city and from outside became impossible. All trains on the Western line route have been suspended.

Police cordoned off all railway stations on the line and strict checking was carried out at the Central and Harbour sections of local trains services.

The blasts brought live fading memories of the BEST blasts of 2003. Reports said the city once again sprang to the rescue of its people, while official help was tardy.

Meanwhile, Delhi was put on high alert after the serial blasts in Srinagar and Mumbai through the day.

The Centre went into a huddle, with the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil rushing to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Later, Patil read out a statement from Dr Singh in which he said the fight against terrort would continue.

There we go. People in India died of terrorists...and India rejects them...when people in USA/UK/SPAIN/Saudi Arabia/France die of terrorism...people reject terrorism...when people in Nepal die because of terrorists some Nepalese want them to form the goverment. To top it all they try to prove their legitimacy of why they killed.

state of the State.

the 1993 mumbai blast brought sanjay dutt in the controversy and even jailed him. let's see if this one has anything to do with him or others (may be salman?) hahahahehe..j/k.

on a serious note,

well the reports are yet to come, so let's not jump into the conclusion. right now, all we can do is condemn this heinous act.

hahahahah "pack of 13" so u have ur count as well? haahahahahhaa....

memyself, i used to think that you are one obnoxious and undemocratic character who does not give a damn to others freedom of expression.

over the past few weeks, i have come to realize that your views are not even worth a debate. ALL about you remind me is "PREM CHOPRA". you must have watched those 80's hindi movies, rite? ALthough Prem chopra was supposed to be a villain, he ends up playing a rather comic role with his flop tricks and short-sightedness. you resemble those characters, seriously !! hahahehheheheheh

i dont even have anything against you. i like jokes coz they make me laugh...hahahahehehehahahahahahah

Logics never entered the brain of terrorists did they. Villians...we will see who is on the wrong side of fence...the supporter of terrorism or supporter of Nationalism (like me). You can take the terrorist out of filth but you can't take the filth out of terrorists.

This attack should be condemned strongly, but violent retaliation is not the solution for this crisis. I believe Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a sensible man, and unlike Bush will not go on an all out throttle to retaliate. I believe he will take strong but common sense path to completely eliminate such kind of mindless attacks by the terrorists. Its good that Pakistan have issued a strong condemnation and together Pakistani and Indian official on all branches of the government should show reselience in fighting the terrorists responsible for attacks on innocent people. This is another bloody attack on a series of attacks which just goes to show that the path Mr. Bush has choosen is not worthy and that killing innocent people will breed more terrorists. This is the time for choice or our World leaders. A path to end this crisis through diplomacy or through nuclear warfare. I still believe that diplomatic solution should be the number one priority and what Mr. Bush and others have choosen is not the correct solution.

Loote, its not right to make such comments at a time of crisis.

And to top it all, these terrorists haven't even apologised for why they killed in Nepal and why they killed in India with their Indian counterparts....

nell,

i agree with you. i am not advocating for violent condemnation. why do people think that protests have to be of violent nature? whoever did it, the act is heinous, number of innocent people have been killed, this is another human rights violation, hence the need for condemnation. I am not for violent protest.

memyself,

keep it coming dude. you are one of the characters here. i know, by now, most of the visitors here have realized what you are made up of. hehe..."Prem chopra" s used to be my fav character in those movies. In the beginning they look very deadly and lethal, but as the story progresses they turn out to be a mere joker hahahaherheh.. so keep it coming. hehehahahah

Violent protests are not the way...

And these were the same people who brought up the MOB AND GOON MOVEMENT for 19 days and brought shame to the country...these were the same people who destroyed public and private property by unleashing state terrorists and poor indian muslims on the terrorists ...
they tried to label all this violence as peaceful protests....why did they protest in prohbited area..;and they were the same people who when they took part declared prohbited areas so that Nationalists like me can't protest.

double faced crooked terrorists...
