So here's my attempt at being religious. Swasthani serves a great deal of importance for Nepalese people around the world. Some, however, do not have access to it. So I thought, why not make it available for everyone? So voila, I thought of an idea: put the Adhyayas (Chapters) online. And that's my project. http://thedoctorbee.blogspot.com that's the link. You'll find the two chapters that have been read there. And please leave comments! Your feedback is very important. Thanks db

Swasthani is an age old tradition and I will defend it with all my honor. Yes, it is the 21st century, and yes, everything it says should not be taken literally, just like with the Bible. However, there are lessons that are taught from the book that are still useful today: anger causes problem, one should not be blinded by pride, being generous and spiritual in your own way will result in fruitful endevors, etc. In addition to that, Swasthani brings family together which automatically provide values that we need so critically in today's world. If you are in America and you refuse to teach your kids about Swasthani or any other Nepalese traditions, then where's the identity? How do we identify ourselves? Swasthani is a very important tradition and I'll be damned if I stop reciting or listening it every year. I've done it every year of my 18 years of life and I'll be continuing it. db

. Now you talk about Nepalese Identity here in US. Wearing jeans, listening to Michael Jackson, watching NBA, eating Hamburgers, drinking Jhwam and Budweise, getting married with beef eaters, driving sport coupe, reading playboy, watching cinemax. and eating rice and daal twice a day..and listening once a year Swasthani.. Is that what you mean by storing your nepalese Genes in USA.?

Sayami, I dont think there are only students from nepal pver here in USA. There are families as well. And I am pretty sure at least half of Nepalese in US do not eat beef. And why do have any problem if other people want to listen to swasthani in US itself. I dont get it. U dont want to listen, DON'T listen to it. As simple as that. Sparrow

America is not right place to listen to it. Swasthani is also a moral lesson. It is like dancing on moon with space suit.

You dont need to tell me whee I need to keep my ass. I am not here in US to eat beef as you or to marry with the beef eaters or to drink booze or to read playboy. You might be here for stuffs but I got my things to take care of. What you do over here is not what the rest of the people do. Keep this in mind. Sparrow

Dude, there is no use of being so hostile for a tradition. And telling someone to keep their ass in Nepal is totally uncalled for. Why are you posting on a Nepali forum if you have rejected Nepali customs? I don't mean to judge you but if you are going to criticize someone for still sticking to some of his/her traditional aspects, then I don't think you should be posting here as well, because this is part of maintaining an identity of who we are here in the United States. You see, I didn't put it up there to force anyone to listen to it. It's your choice if you want to listen to it or not. I just put it so that those who do want to hear it have it readily available. And who says it is wrong to read the Swasthani in America? Religion and traditions affect all, and there is no reason to give up your traditions, who you are, just because you are in another country. Sure there is "Jaisa desh waisa bhesh" but one does not have to completely convert. db

And I take a very deep offense to you telling me that I am one of the people that do such things as: Wearing jeans, listening to Michael Jackson, watching NBA, eating Hamburgers, drinking Jhwam and Budweise, getting married with beef eaters, driving sport coupe, reading playboy, watching cinemax. You are making a generalized comment because: 1. I do not listen to Michael Jackson 2. Yes, I do watch the NBA, but I did that in Nepal too 3. I don't eat hamburgers 4. Drinking is done everywhere...but I don't drink 5. "Getting married with beef eaters" what the hell is that? People eat what they want to eat. 6. I don't drive a sport coupe. I earned my way to a 1994 Mazda 7. Porn is just disgusting so no, Playboy does not appeal me 8. Cable is pointless and I don't have it. So pretty much none of those apply to me. Totally uncalled for, dude. db

Sayami, I am 18 and I moved here 5 years ago...I don't think I could have stayed because it was not up to me. But here is my point: even if I am here, why should I leave my culture behind? Yes I have changed my setting and am adopting many aspects of the American culture, but I sitll have my...what do they call it? Nepalitwa. I mean if you are so against promoting cultural aspects, why are you still posting here? I think that is a little hypocritic, wouldn't you think? db
