Food in Nepal tastes so much better than in the US. Looks can be deceiving in that sense. Tiny, darkish cauli sold by Madeshi in bicycle tastes sooo much better than a big white Cauliflower sold here in US food supermarket (even organic market), so is Spinich, potato, cilantro, even chicken and the list goes on. I have always amazed about how some newari dishes and their likings are so close to Korean food.

well to be honest, i hate nepali food. There is no contrast and variety. The only good nepali food is newari and thakali. Well, i havenot tried 84 banjan from palace but may be it is locked since ages for janta. The nepali food didnot grow up because of aristocrat of nepal. If u look back to history of French and Italian food, it has always been new experiment and new search. Nepolean name comes first to bring the french food in name and quality. He was so passion of food that oneday he told his chef to make sauce to his chef. He was so worried and working on butter and vinegar but accidentaly egg yolk fall into it which was next to top of rack. He started mixing it fast and became hollandise sauce. It got name hollandaise later in world war II coz the butter was supplied by holland. I dont like nepali food sorry dude..

Beachlife, if you are nepali, how can you not like Nepali Food? Seriously, a few reasons i could think of not liking nepali food: - you are not nepali, or a nepali who hasn't lived in Nepal since childhood -you are allergic to it -your cook sucked -you are just acting like a baby -its beyond me What's your fav. food anyway?

Beachlife- that's cool. At least you are honest about it. I am not surprised with JBhoot, his names says it all. Some people do eat weird food, but its weird for us and we can't judge it by our liking. Eating Turkey in Nepal sounds weird, but i have turkey sammich 2-3 times a week, how about baby Octopus? i like it too.

Bedrock, what do you mean by, "if you are nepali, how can you not like Nepali Food?" Come on, just because you are nepali doesn't mean that you have to like Nepali Food, or do you? Nepali food-(Newari + thakali food), sucks. Everything has masala. Chicken has masala, Kashi has masala, Kauli has masala, Saag has masala, everything has masala and tastes like masala. Why can't kauli taste like kauli? Chau taste like Chau, and why can't Chicken taste like Chicken(simply grilled)? We need masala on everything, and that is the reason why we do not like western food because they taste like what they are, FOOD. We just taste masala. That is why Nepali food sucks.

How about some kitchen chemistry to kick up your pheromones?! There is nothing like cooking up a storm with your beloved or with a bunch of friends!!! -Catchy music you can sing or dance to, while cooking together! -A glass of red French wine -Piro chicken gizzard fried with green chilly -Hot hot hot aloo , boiled and fried with sukeko rato khursani, marich and timbur. -Sandheko tama with hariyo khursani and cilantro -Un-Canned garbanzo beans ko channa chat pat with raw onions, diced tomatoes, garlic, hariyo khursani and cilantro! Maybe watch a great movie or go out dancing?! Nothing like a great Friday or Saturday evening spent cooking! And as for the cleaning...together it can be accomplished without much pain!!!

I bet there are <1% Nepalis who don't like Nepali Food. If you are in Nepal, you are in deep shit if you don't like Nepali food, 'coz your other option is Nepali Food. Hurray, try telling your mom or someone in you family, why our Kashi doesn't taste like Kashi, and cauli doesn't taste like cauli? You will get an ear full answer. I understand though what you mean by masala in everything, but c'mon the food you grew up with sticks with you and nothing can beat that. Of course, you don't have to eat it everyday but don't you crave for some spicy Nepali food at least a couple times a week? I do and try to have nepali meal at least 2-3 times a week. At the same time I crave other food like Thai, Ethiopian, Korean, Persian, Levanese, Mexican, Vietnamese, Italian once in a while. If you guys live in DC area, I am open to share some great neighborhood restaurants. Go ahead and start a new thread if you are interested.
