Is there really a difference between the two terms? Ask her what the difference is, if any. From my understanding, once you start working using the TPS associated EAD, your DSO terminates your SEVIS. If/when TPS expires and you still haven't acquired a different status (H1, GC,etc), you'll have to go to Nepal and apply for a visa, like you did the first time.

Just curious - when was your TPS approved? I applied mid September, EAD came over a month ago, but TPS case status is still showing "Fingerprint Fee Received".

well, if it's closed then you have to acquire another status before TPS expires (can be work visa, green card, etc) to continue staying in the US legally when TPS expires. If you are unable to do that, you'll have to go back to Nepal and apply for a new visa...just like you did the first time.

Yall are wrong. TPS is independent of F1. You can be F1 and TPS at the same time.

You can have both F1 and TPS as long as you don't use that TPS EAD to work. Once you do that, your DSO will terminate your F1 because you're in violation of F1 regulations. TPS approval doesn't override existing requirements and regulations for maintaining F1 status - you are still limited to 20hrs/week on campus work, or work through OPT/CPT, or work with permission of USCIS (due to financial hardship). Applying for TPS and EAD doesn't hurt anything, but using the EAD to work does...so you have to make a choice between F1 or work.
I'm basically paraphrasing what some local attorneys told me when I consulted them before applying for TPS.

@Mr P
Your DSO is worst and unprofessional one. You should inform your DSO to go through recently issued Federal register regarding TPS and F1 student.

https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/11/09/2015-28360/employment-authorization-for-nepali-f-1-students-experiencing-severe-economic-hardship-as-a-direct

I have completed my Fall semester even working under TPS EAD. But you must update your I20 with all the information like eligible to work based on approved TPS for Nepal. Now I have one more semester to finish my graduate degree. I have registered classes for Spring too. You should reinstate your I20 asap. It is clearly mentioned on Federal register that one can maitain F1 and TPS concurently. Or try to look for good lawyer who can clarify your DSO. However, you can still continue your education under TPS and even might be eligible for instate tuition fee based on the state. I would suggest you to maintain your F1 status as it open many doors for you comparison to TPS.

I have a TPS -- travelled back home for 2 moths on AP taking a semester break and I'm back on school and working with EAD. So @bakwaas_kura so you are wrong.

Technically , your DSO does not have to know you are working on TPS EAD.

TBH most of the lawyers do the same thing we do ...read the USCIS guide. They do not know much about TPS affecting us any more than we do. Difference ? we have the experience - they don't.

That being said it totally depends on how Duche the DSO is.
