Dear __

I understand the availability of different kinds of devices and free services around.
Please note that the $30 device + shipping to Nepal can sum up a bit higher.
We charge for the customer service and quality improvement.
The free service are not always reliable and fast.

If we had internet in Nepal we can setup  Magic jack for 40 and 20 for one year. Call any time two way as the load shading permits?
What is new ? Can you provide us info as you trying to convince to a person who has limited knowledge about it.
Advantages over magic jack?
I have lingo adopter and I can get unlimited incoming call and just 200 minutes free for 4.99 a month. And I can buy cable or dsl for 1000 a month?

Magic Jack needs computer to plug in and dial out.

You can plug in our IP-Phone directly to the internet cable. No computer needed.
It stays as an ordinary phone at the corner. and rings whenever you make call.

It consumes very less power so no need to turn it off even if you are running on inverter.

There is 30 days money back guarantee, if you found the service not viable.

Yes it is true you need computer to use magic jack. But what about nettalk? We dont need computer for it. Neither we need any SIP, VOIP stuffs that may be confusing for many others. Your device costs $50.00 for device. First payment will be $80 with 3 month subscription. But nettalk costs $70 for the device and a full year of unlimited service. Your service will cost us $120 per year but they provide the same service in $30 a year. So, I think nettalk is far more better than yours.

Goto www.nettalk.com for more information.

what about your legal stand in Nepal. Are we allowed to use IP Phone commercially in Nepal. Can somebody put light on this? I guess they still have some kind of restriction on VOIP.

The following is the best solution that I know so far...

Setup a wifi internet connection at your home in nepal, get a Nokia phone or an iphone for your parents and install skype app in it. Teach them the  few extra clicks needed to make calls from skype. If you add $10 to their skype account they will be able to call any US/Canada numbers for few cents per minutes and trust me that $10 can last upto a year.

Now it is buy one get one free that will be 35 each and one year free. Next year 29.99.
I think if we deal directly will be cheaper.  Any body getting it? Let me share the cost with you.

I think it is cyber-moday sale.

Only problem I have with the youtube video posted above is the fact that they fail to mention required dsl/cable internet.  Sort of like a false advertisement.  Or they just assumed that who ever are interested in their service already have internet connection back home.

There are multiple ways to implement free voip services back home if you already have a dsl/cable internet.

One way is to get a SIP device and a sip number. Sipgate provides free SIP number and free incoming calls. (need to buy a SIP device). No monthly fees.

One can also get a Skype phone. Which works pretty good.  Again no monthly fees. This I think is the easiest way to go for non techie family back home. One can even get a free skypein number from ring2skype.com

If one has a wifi router back home (use inverter to power up when no power, since it requires very little power), use wifi enabled phones ie: Nokia, Droid, iphone or itouch along with Skype or SIP apps.

I don't like magicjack because it requires a pc/laptop.  netTalk duo is better since it doesn't require a pc/laptop.  Again you can power up your router and nettalk duo with inverter when there is no power.

Tringtel does give you anything new, Calls to SIP or US number forwarded to SIP device in Nepal (or wherever) are free and reliable. You only have to pay for device.

If you already have Gizmo5 account and DSL in Nepal, you can get a googlevoice number (free) -->gizmo-->skype (google the procedure to forward, it's too simple) and use the skype phone described in the thread below for free communication to Nepal. However, new gizmo5 registrations has been suspended since google took over it but for similar yet free procedure (with ring2skype.net) read sangam's summary in an earlier thread below.

http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?ThreadID=77109

Magicjack is easy to use.  You pay $40 for the
first year and $20 there after for per year.  Problem with it is that it
needs to be connected to a desktop or a laptop to use.  Which, by the
way, it not practical solution for Nepal.

Like " _ "
suggested on his/her posts, you are better off buying a Skype phone and
use it along with ring2skype phone number.  I am trying to simplify on
what " _ " has mention on his/her posts.

1. register for Skype Id.
2. sign up for a phone number @ ring2skype. (sign up for a phone number where you reside in, ie US number if you are in the US, UK number if you are in the UK)
3. buy a Skype phone (one that does not require a desktop/laptop to use. like Belkin desktop Skype phone)
4. sign up for a ADSL line back home.
5. get a UPS back up to run your router and Skype phone ( so that the phone is live even during the load shedding)
6. plug your Skype phone into router and power it up.
7. Now you can call Nepal using the US local number associated with that Skype ID.
8.
To call US from Nepal, you need to buy credit from Skype.  (you can ask
your family members to give you a miss call if they want to talk to you
so that the Skype credit will almost never expire)

Your Costs:
ADSL
line in Nepal:  Rs. 900 per month for lowest bandwidth available plus
one time router and UPS back up costs ( I have no idea how much these
cost in Nepal)
Skype Desktop phone $80
SkypeOut phone credit $10

And be able to call home any time you want for free: Priceless  : =)

'Skype to Go' plan may be better for international calls. Here is the list of features that you can enjoy using the Skype to Go:
- easy and affordable calling services.
- Call at low rates depending upon the plan and the location.
- International Calling services in low rates.
- Call without the internet or any data plans.
If you want to know detail information this link may help you.

This original post was from 2010 - 7 years ago. If you read through the post other users have already made their suggestion that worked for that period. Viber or Skype to go did not exist then. Adoption of smart phones were just picking up. Everybody now knows all these alternatives. Nobody goes to services like tringtel now. You guys are making suggestion to 7 year old post with present day alternatives. At least look at the dates.
