seattle is okay city among metros. i live about 2 hours north in a city called Bellingham. One thing worth mentionable about this place is that, it rains a lot, just like Nepal but the place is green all the time. summer is great at 75F all the time and about 80% of the time of sunshine. quite humid but, better than extreme dry. about the school, i think UW is one of the best schools in the country and two of the biggest tech companies are here - microsoft and amazon. the nepalese community is well built however the pop of nepalese is little. if you are single and want to chill, this is the place, because seattle and washington boasts one the largest population of young hot singles. seattle is not a great sports town, but is a great music place. many people smoke pot as vancouver is close by. the bay is beautiful. you can enjoy beach and ocean activities in summer any time you want at affordable expense, and ski and winter activities in mt baker which is only about 1-2 hours away. This is the place if you want peace and thrill at the same time, all the year around. Cost of living is relatively low compared to other metros.

Seattle is aweful place, rains all the time. Nothing to do around here if you don't ski and after work and on weekend, there are few places to hang out. And the traffic is horrible. Only two main freeways and always there is some kind of accident. And UW uhhh, what to say about that. That university got an attitude problem. Since it's the only good university in this small town, they think they are something. Though UW is not even in top 20 universities. There are lots of students and very few good university around. This is the reason why they have lots of requirements to get admission. You should try better universities in east coast or in cali where it's easy to get in. So if you have a choice stay away from this washington.

Seattle is great. I love this place. Lived here for the last 4 yrs. The people are nice, compared to stuck up east coast. Weather wise, all the rain thing is just a hype. I does not that much. On an average Seattle gets lower annual rainfall than most US cities. Summer is great too, temp hovers around 75-80. Lots of outdoor activities. It is also the most active city in the country.
All I know about UW is its one of the biggest schools in the region. Good reputation.
Try nepal seattle society for further info about the city.
Peace.

WA sucks when there's nobody around you to give company. You could go for camping, fishing, ski, hiking, bicycling, climbing and other outdoor activities. Vancouver, Canada is pretty good place for fun. People are very nice. Don't get troubles by smoking weed or doing other drugs. I really had fun in WA. I will visit WA again. I gotta go back their. Good Luck dude.

This is my opinion...

Seattle is not bad--specially for outdoor activities. We were fortunate that it didn't rain while we were in Seattle/Portland area.

I have a friend who did his MBA from U. Washington. He took us there to see the cherry blossom. Many tourists were there with their cameras.

If you need any help about the university then I can definitely direct your concerns/questions to him. He is been living in Seattle for almost 6-7 years and another friend has been living for 10 or so years.

Now about the surroundings...
I think Portland is also beautiful and is only about 3 hrs of drive. You will like Portland if you are not that much of a big city person, and love outdoors. Its green... Portland seemed to be lil relaxed and laid back compared to Seattle.

But above all, Vancouver, BC took my breath away with both Ocean and mountains. Very vibrant city and very nice atmosphere. I think infront of Vancouver, Seattle would be lil relaxed.

Vancouver, however is an expensive city and is also one of the best cities in the world along with Zurich.

Vancouver has about 400 Nepalese and for the first time Mukti Shakya (all the way from Spain) of Mukti and Revival will be performing live in Beautiful British Columbia.

--Short Circuit--so you can email me via Sajha and like I said --can direct your concerns to a friend of mine who did his grad studies from the university.

---Oh by the way--Seattle do have other big companies including Starbucks. I was surprised to see small headquarter of Amazon.com.
