Hi Folks,

I am upgrading to a DSLR from a point and shoot camera. I found out that this camera has very good rating and the price is also not that bad. Please suggest me if I should buy this camera. Thanks in advance.

Description of camera:

Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens

I started from good old Canon XTi about 3 years ago. Now I own Canon 5D Mark II. The latest entry level DSLR for Canon is T2i which is about $200 expensive than T1i and has better HD video shotting capabilities. T1i is a good entry level DSLR which also has HD video shooting capabilities. For beginners like you, I would say this camera is good enough if the budget is right for you.

It's a nice and high specification camera but not very flexible optically. optical zoom lens included is 18-55mm zoom lens which is suitable for normal photography. If you want to take a picture of distant objects and  pictures under high light intensity you need higher zoom lens like 17-200mm or telephoto lens. So it depends how u want to use it. e.g. If you want to go Nepal and want to take a pictures of birds it's definetily not suitable.

Although it has 15.1MP it's not CCD, it's CMOS sensor. CMOS need more processing power.

I am happy with may Nikon D3000 and if not a real professional you may not able to utilize it fully. The reason I bought it, once we were in Nepal and wanted to give our simple digital camera and they asked us is it DSLR?
What the hake we doing in America , felt to pay and get a good camera to satisfy myself possessing a DSLR. That is the story from my side. Not trying to be funny  but expressing the truth.
Obviously picture quality are far better than digital camera and can not be compared.
