I was driving all the way from outer banks to Raleigh on highway 64. The speed limit on this highway varying from 35,45,55, even 70.
The sheriff  pulled over me on the junction of speed limit 35-70 while I was driving on 51 mph. He gave me a ticket specifying I have to appear in court without even talking to me . Shall I appear in court my self or hire a attorney?. I contacted atrorney in colombia city area (tyrrell) county he told me including court fee, fine and attorney fee altogether 410 $. If i go through attorney there will be no point as per him. I do have clear liecence of delaware. what should I do?
Any suggestion will highly appreciated?.

I've never seen road sign with [35-70] ever.
Most probably you must have driven 55 mph at 35mph zone.
Hiring attorney proves you are trying to prove that officer of wrong deed unless he really is. In most cases, they know their job, and you'll bear all the hassles of court and lawyers fees and stuff like that.
Sometimes we have this sensation in the car that we feel we're not driving fast but from someone out would see us zappin quicker than their eyeballs could move.
And if that peace officer has given you a ticket, most probably read somewhere clearly on the ticket, it must be clearly written that you pay the fine or go through the court. Now it seems you decided to go through the court, so be ready for making your point stronger and proceed.
I would simply pay the fee and would learn my lesson.

In my opinion also It's far better you just pay the fine and be done with it, why do you want to go through more trouble??? come on man someone pulled you on  35-70 mph road??? if you gonna say this in this court no one believes you coz ther's no such kind of speed limit brother. They may even let you take the test again if you say this kind of things.well that's what i think and good luck to you.

i had same experience teo year ago. in my case i was doing 90 in 70 zone. don't hire attorney. just show up in court and plead guilty because the fine won't be that much compared to hiring an attorney. i actually just paid the court fee which at that time was around $65. i was also told that i had to appear in court no matter what according to state law. good luck

I got a ticket in NC too and had to go to the court.  Apparently, if you are driving more than 20 miles above the speed limit, you have to go to the court no matter what.  Just go there and plead guilty.  The judge will reduce your fine somewhat and also waive any points.

@bittertruth

35-70 I mean the junction where 35 speed limit road ends and 70 mph road starts.
I was driving 51mph on 35 mph speed limit.
I know I have to pay the fine but I donot like to put points on my driving liecence which may cause alot hike in insurance.
In the ticket that officer gave me,there is nothing $ written .
He has mentioned that I have to appear in a court. It is about 4 hr drive from my location.

@coll kale  I would definately pay that fine if any fine was written on the receipt. The concern is I have to appear in
court which is 4 hours drive from my location.

@nepali_american  I will definately plead guilty. Is there any discount I get if go to the court rather than hiring a attorney. Actually this is the first time
I am pulled over in NC. I just want to make sure appearing in court doesnot deteriorate  the condition. This is the first time I am driving in NC
Is it good idea to appear with the defensive driving training.

I have pulled the driving record online for last 3.5 years I donot have any points so far in my liecence.

Dont make a big deal out of it and just pay your god da*n ticket. If you appear in court trying to defend your self by saying, the speed limit was 35-70, you sound like a dumb a*s.

Guys don't be lazy and read first before commenting. He is saying there is no dollar amount written on ticket and he was told to appear in court no matter what.

I guess if he gave you no option, then you better appear in court.

@:-) you are right. My concern is whether I go to court myself or hire an attorney.

It wont make any difference in my opinion. Just go to court and see the judge, You have a clear liscence so just explin him that since you were in the junction you were actually decelerating when the cop pulled you over.
